talking indian to me

my birthday week turned out beautifully with the different events that took place one after the other.

aside from finally accomplishing an important errand somewhere in mandaluyong, we were visited by my parents-in-law and my chicago-based sister-in-law who’s here for a month vacation. my sons and i were very happy. you see, we seldom have visitors in our las pinas abode nowadays unlike when we were in manila.
having come from indang, cavite they brought with them the town’s produce as “pasalubong“.  for me, they were manna from heaven.
what touched me so much though were the advanced birthday presents which oye, my husband’s eldest sister, handed me before they left.

her remembering my penchant for indian accessories showed me that i am loved by my sister-in-law whom i haven’t seen for almost five years. it was overwhelming!
the gifts were a beauty.  and i am sure by this time, oye had already an eye for indian accessories with very good craftmanship.  why? well, she has been married to an indian national since 2008 and as expected, has already been oriented as regards this aspect.

oye has already reached india, has  attended indian wedding ceremonies and holidays, has eaten indian food for years now, and has worn the indian attire for several occasions. the last information about her, has remained a part of my fantasies.
this might be a surprise but aside from using indian accessories  i also want to don and strut in their traditional attire which was worn by the late indian prime minister indira gandhi with so much chic.
oh, i just love the ethnic touch in the dress sense of the indian women!

i know it’s oye’s destiny to learn and imbibed another culture which explains her slightly changed fashion style now, but obviously, the thoughtfulness which she showed was very filipino.
