Since it is my birthday, I decided to be a little intimate with you, my dearest friends, regular patrons, and visitors.๐ŸŽ‚๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ‰

I’ll let you have a special tour of me via these facts (or myths to some…hahahaha) which made me realize how blessed I am as I continue to enjoy my existence.๐Ÿ™

FACT 1

My name in my birth certificate is MAURINE MEDIAVILLO, but I have been writing MAUREEN from the time I learned to scribble it. Correction of my name had to undergo a legal process. On the other hand, my baptismal name is MA. MAURENE! (Confusing, eh?) ๐Ÿ™ƒ๐Ÿค”

FACT 2

I only learned that my real birth date is APRIL 20, 1969 when I decided to prepare my documents before I got married in 1997. For the past long years, I have been celebrating my natal day every 21st of APRIL. As a result, I have two birth dates to acknowledge. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿคฑ๐Ÿผ

FACT 3

I am the youngest in the family but never did I experience how to be spoiled.๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ง

FACT 4

I was born in Old Albay but grew up in Daraga town, thus making me master the Daraga dialect first before Legazpi dialect. ๐ŸŒ‹๐ŸŒถ

FACT 5

My favorite game is “TEACHER-TEACHERAN” since I was in grade one, but I tried changing my destiny to be an educator after graduating in high school.๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿซ

FACT 6

My favorite childhood playmates from Ilawod Dos were Dalyn (she’s now my cousin-in-law), Tinsoy and Gigi. We’re all musically-inclined that’s why we’re able to earn a good amount of money every caroling season.๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽต๐ŸŽ„๐ŸŽ…๐Ÿฝ

FACT 6

I was a regular figure at Daraga Park where I met an accident while playing on the see-saw. ๐Ÿค•

FACT 7

I loved climbing fruit trees especially aratilis.โค๏ธ๐Ÿง—๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

FACT 8

When I was around 8 or 9 years old, I loved playing “baril-barilan” (war games) but I would only be allowed to play it if my older brother’s team lacked one member.๐Ÿ”ซ๐Ÿงจ๐Ÿ’ฃ

FACT 9

At an early age, I already showed interest in cooking. What my playmates and I cooked was sneakingly taken from our neighbor’s garden or solicited from the wet market’s vendors. Hahaha…๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿณ

FACT 10

Fishball has been my favorite street food.๐Ÿก

FACT 11

When I was in elementary, I could memorize a long poem and song within a limited time. ๐Ÿง ๐Ÿ‘ง๐Ÿป

FACT 12

I loved singing Imelda Papin’s (ngiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!) songs during the jukebox era.๐ŸŽผ๐ŸŽค

FACT 13

In my whole childhood life, I was able to own only one plastic doll which looked like a voodoo doll. It was bought by my sister Olen for Php 1.95 ($0.038) during the Daraga town fiesta. It was made of plastic and with it were a plastic tub and a plastic nursery bottle. I had to sew its dress because it was naked and its gender couldn’t be deciphered.๐Ÿงธ๐Ÿ‘—๐Ÿ‘š

FACT 14

I hated sleeping during siesta hour, but I couldn’t do anything when told by my parents and maternal grandfather.๐Ÿ˜ด๐Ÿ˜ค

FACT 15

I had also experienced having lice and would cry every time my mama would remove them because I could not go out and play. I would only agree if she would give me a five-centavo coin just to allow her to do it.๐Ÿ˜–๐Ÿ˜ซ

FACT 16

I was spanked by my father just once when I snuck out from our house to join my brother Joseph and our first cousins in a swimming spree at theย  fish pond near Bicol University Pilot Elementary School (BUPES), my alma mater!๐ŸŠโ€โ™€๏ธ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ˜ญ

FACT 17

I was very fond of playing football when I was in grade four that’s why I would often bring a plastic ball with me and play it with my chosen classmates every break time.๐Ÿ€

FACT 18

I showed interest in business at an early age. I brought goodies (including white turnips!)ย  to be sold to my classmates. Unluckily, it did not prosper and I realized I wasn’t born to be an entrepreneur.๐Ÿ™Ž๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

FACT 19

No boy classmate had ever made me cry. It’s the other way around. ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿง๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿป

FACT 20

I had my first and only birthday party ever when I turned 13. ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿฅ–๐Ÿž๐Ÿ๐Ÿ—

FACT 21

I held two positions (president and monitor) in freshmen but regretted it when I decided for our section to leave the classroom after a 15-minute grace period for our late teacher.ย  Our social studies teacher became very angry to the whole class (I would never forget her tearing all our paper after every quiz until she got tired).๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿซ๐Ÿฅด๐Ÿ˜ž

FACT 22

I would always look forward to our annual intramural sports because I got to play my fave sports — volleyball, softball, and soccer. I wanted to also play badminton, but we had no money to buy me a racket.๐Ÿโšพ๏ธโšฝ๏ธ

FACT 23

My inclination in theater and performing arts was intensified when I was given the task to write scripts, direct plays and choreograph dances in high school.๐ŸŽญ๐Ÿฉฐ

FACT 24

After second year, I thought I would transfer to Manila with my family and continue my secondary education there. I was left in Bicol and stayed with my eldest sister who became my guardian for two years.๐ŸšŒ

FACT 25

I experienced leaving my sister’s house out of anger and hurt feelings and stayed with my grandparents (my mother’s aunts) for two days. Main cause: She did not agree to pay my CAT uniform.๐Ÿ˜ช๐Ÿ˜ก

FACT 26

CAT period was my favorite in fourth year because it’s time to be militaristic in my bearing during drills in the football field. (Blame it to my wanting to be a female James Bond! Ha-ha.) ๐Ÿ’‚๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ฎ๐Ÿป๐ŸŽž

FACT 27

I was formally courted by a fourth year electrical engineering student when I was in my last year in high school. It took him 5 years before I finally answered him making him my first official boyfriend but in a long-distance relationship.๐Ÿ˜ธ๐Ÿ˜ป

FACT 28

After graduating in high school, our being financially challenged had me stopping for a year which made me value education more.ย โ˜น๏ธ

FACT 29

My first course in college was BS CHEMISTRY but I had to shift to AB/BSEย  the next semester when my first choice was dissolved due to failure of the institution to produce board passers. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿ”ฌ

FACT 30

My tuition fee for 21 units at Philippine Normal College (now Philippine Normal University) in 1987 was around Php 250.00 ($ 4.91) only! My sister Cristy, who was already working at that time, became my benefactor but she did not know that I qualified for a scholarship in two semesters afterwards. ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉ

FACT 31

Generally, I was a straight college student whose routine was always house-school-house. That’s why when the 1990 strong earthquake occurred, I was already home while my other classmates were still at PNC doing unofficial businesses. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโœ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ“’

FACT 32

After an unexpected “break-up” with my first boyfriend, I had my second relationship in third year college. However, it went pfft immediately for I didn’t have the courage to introduce him to my family since having a boyfriend while I was still studying was taboo! ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’™

FACT 33

My treasured people in college were my friendsย  — Francis, Soc and Beth whose goals in life were almost the same as mine: TO FINISH COLLEGE AND LAND A TEACHING JOB AT ONCE.๐Ÿ‘ญ๐Ÿป๐Ÿง๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿง๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธโค๏ธ

FACT 34

I was earning Php 7,000/month ($137.62/month) in 1991 in the very first school where I taught. That year, it was the highest-paying Chinese-Filipino school in Manila until our founder-director died. ๐Ÿค‘๐Ÿ’ธ

FACT 35

I was honed to be a seasoned teacher for 18 years in a school which taught me to open my heart to the yellow race.๐Ÿค—

FACT 36

I enjoyed my single-blessedness to the fullest via out-of-town escapades, concert watching, film viewing and discoing with one of my best friends — Beng.๐ŸŽซ๐ŸŽŸ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐ŸŽฌ

FACT 37

I met my third boyfriend in 1995 through an ex-suitor. I had no inkling that my third beau is destined to be my future husband.๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿ‘จ

FACT 38

At age 28 (!), I had a curfew every time I would go out on a date with Larry. My sister Cristy was the one who set it. ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜’

FACT 39

My wedding date was changed from December 22 to December 30, 1997 due to a superstitious belief that it’s better to get married when there’s a full moon (not a tummy that is full-blown…hehehe!).๐ŸŒ

FACT 40

I wished for twins and the Lord granted it when I had my first pregnancy.๐Ÿคฐ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘ผ๐Ÿ‘ผ

FACT 41

I was thankful that I was able to tell my father that I loved him very much before he joined our Creator, but I regretted not expressing it to my mother who passed on while I was at work. ๐Ÿง“๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ’—

FACT 42

I had my running as one of my passions which led me to a lot of beautiful changes and realizations of several fantasies.๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ

FACT 43

I found a new family in San Beda College Alabang which was my dream school to teach for more than a decade.๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿ˜‡

FACT (OR MYTH) 44

I am 44 today, but I feel like I am only 35! (Echoing laughter…)๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿคช๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜…

  1. It’s refreshing to read those significant facts in your years of existence. love you clincher at fact no. 44. As one of those closest to you, I regret not being able to hear some of those amusing stories from you because the best part of our friendship was spent on listening to our own personal woes, building each other’s morale in the face of challenges and sharing both our interests.

    It’s 1:40 am while I was typing this post for April 21–the day I’ve known your birth date. Though you mentioned to me once that April 20 is your real bday, I stick with the 21st because that is what is recorded in my mind. ( btw, nobody told you that for the past 28 years? Oh my G!)

    Anyway FRIEND, here’s something for you. I collected some photos in your blog to make a video for you. Unfortunately, circumstances didn’t permit me.

      for my family and me, it’s also april 21. the force of habit of remembering my birthday every 21st is difficult to change.
