1st of a trilogy: para-island hopping

so it is written, so it shall be done.

this is what i acquiesced  to when i went to manila with my youngest son yesterday to witness the culmination of the aliwan fiesta 2013 which i wrote about at https://wanderingjouster.com/2013/02/25/aaaaliiiiwaaaaan-naaaa/ .

after getting the nod of my husband (which i waited in suspense) to  bring along lancelot, i almost literally jumped for  joy. i was like a child who was promised of something very very special that i could not anymore eat my lunch because of so much excitement and happiness. the fact that i would also be meeting my eldest sister nano (who lives nearer compared to our residence) and my niece tintin made me more hyped that we readied ourselves right away.
the parade was  scheduled to start at the quirino grandstand at 3 p.m.  so i estimated our bus trip to be more than an hour if there would be no heavy traffic along our way. i never planned to use our car because manila is a new “territory” for me to drive to.
being a saturday, the traffic situation was moderate, thus we reached the aliwan theater where the parade would end and where the street dance competition would take place minus the hassle.
fronting the theater is the yearly main hub of this event. it is here where the organizers would put up the stalls selling philippine products from the different provinces where the participants in the street dancing contest also come from. among the attractions in this festival, these native products are what i would always look forward to.
my hopping  from one stall to another did not immediately happen though because we had to wait for my sister who had also arrived at the site almost the same time with us. thanks to text messaging, i was able to update her of our travel making her calculate her own pacing in going to the place.
nano’s presence was the one that signaled my feasting again on the creations of the ingenious pinoys making us standout from the world. you could have seen my smile as i looked for the first “island” that i would be going to.
